aortarota is the project of Raquel Aragón, a musician, visual artist and poet from Madrid, Spain, now based in Glasgow.
aortarota is the many-headed synthesis of these various pursuits, and Aragón calls the shots on each.
aortarota is inspired and influenced by powerful women being loud, mostly.
aortarota’s voice is one that will be instantly familiar to fans of 90s legends Tori Amos, Fiona Apple and Alanis  Morissette, with their lyrical blend of dark banality and high allegory. aortarota’s lyrical consciousness is articulated at such speed, it’s a wonder her lungs can keep up with her brain. Musically, the grungy, abrasive tones and quiet/loud shifts of Mitski and PJ Harvey are the key reference points.
"Who, surprised and horrified by the fantastic tumult of her drives, hasn't accused herself of being a monster?" - Hélène Cixous, 'The Laugh of the Medusa'
"Who has not once wondered: am I a monster or is this what it means to be a person?”                     Clarice Lispector, ‘The Hour of the Star’
